Hunebeds are the oldest monuments in the Netherlands. They were built during the Ice Age from boulders that were transported to Drenthe. Each hunebed has a number, and you will find D1 to D54 in Drenthe. Along the Hunebed Highway, the Route 66 of the Netherlands, you will find 47 of these dolmens. Along the Hunebed Highway, you will not only find the 47 dolmens, but also, for example, the Drentsche Aa National Park, the Tree crown path, Hunebed Centre, Eco-tours, Sheep pen Bargerveen and much more.
