Wall of Hope - how a canopy became a symbol of hope and connection

In the spring of 2020, the world stood still. Under the Linden, like so many others, had to close its doors. But instead of sitting still, we decided to build something - literally and figuratively.

An idea born of necessity

With the limitations of the corona measures, the idea of a canopy behind our premises arose. A place where guests could congregate, despite everything, safely and sheltered. But how do you finance such a thing in a time of uncertainty?

Building the Wall of Hope together

We appealed to our community: buy a shelf for ten euros and write a positive message on it. The response was overwhelming. Shelf after shelf was delivered, each with a unique message of hope, love or humour. Together, we built what we called the "Wall of Hope".

A place of significance

Today, the canopy is more than a physical structure. It is a symbol of what we can achieve together, even in difficult times. A place where stories were written, memories were made and the community came together.

A lasting memory

The Wall of Hope reminds us that even in the darkest of times, there can be light. That connection and community can get us through anything. And that Under the Linden is more than a place to eat or sleep - it is a place where stories come together.

Do you have a memory of our Wall of Hope?

Share your story in our guest book at reception. Together, we continue to build hope and connection.
