From 1 July, the Dutch government will start fighting plastic packaging. Did you know that every day in the Netherlands alone we throw away 19 million plastic cups and food containers that have only been used once? To do something about this, the government has launched a campaign to encourage re-use and plastic packaging will be taxed more heavily. From 1 July date, you will therefore pay extra for disposable cups and containers that are (partly) made of plastic. At Onder de Linden, we are taking a different approach. How? Read on quickly.
Sustainability at Onder de Linden
At Onder de Linden, we are committed to sustainability. Not only is this reflected in the breakfast buffet, where we ban mono-packaging as much as possible and go back to old-fashioned weck pots with sprinkles and jam, for example. Also, all our food waste is collected by ReFood, which turns it back into sustainable energy and fertilisers for farms by means of its own biogas plant.
Because we are constantly working on making our hotel and restaurant more sustainable, the news of the plastic measures therefore did not come as a huge shock. It only encourages us more to think creatively and look even more critically at our working process.

We are committed to reuse
As a hotel, we offer packed lunches for our guests. Ideal during a bike ride through the province or a nice walk through nature. Since we used plastic packaging here, the challenge for us here was to come up with a solution. Actually, this one was quickly found. We don't really like a plastic tax; we prefer to focus on recycling.
Therefore, from now on, you can have your own lunch box and bottles filled by our kitchen team with a delicious lunch. Don't have a lunch box or bottle with you on holiday? Then you can buy a reusable lunch box and bottle from us. Good for the environment and a nice souvenir to take home.
