Mensingebos/ Sterrebos Roden.

Mensinge is Drenthe in a nutshell. All elements of the classic Drenthe landscape meet: woods of different types and ages, an authentic manor house, heathland, fens, a lovely stream valley with a meandering stream, wooded banks and an ash tree. The forest has a recreational function for Roden and is managed by the Forestry Commission. The woods were created by the former residents of Havezathe Mensinge for timber production. In the woods, you will find a number of beautiful fens. These are so-called pingoruïnes, remnants of the ice age. And perhaps the best kept secret is that there is a protected burial mound in the woods. This predates the dolmens.

Heritage Route Roden.

Heritage route Roden is a walking route of about 9 km through, among others, the Mensingebos Roden, where you get to know Roden's cultural and natural history heritage. The route starts at the Brink in Roden or at Havezate Mensinge for a shorter distance.

Primeval forests Norg.

Since 1962, the primeval forest of Norg has been owned by Natuurmonumenten and is part of Natura 2000 areas, thus the forest is also designated as a forest reserve. This means that no planting or felling is allowed, allowing nature to take its own course. The first written source was dated around the 16th century. This is probably why the primeval forest of Norg is one of the oldest deciduous forests in the Netherlands. There are also oak trees here that were planted around 1850 and the largest holly tree in Europe is in this forest.

The Ommelanden is the land region that extends around the city of Groningen and includes the three quarters of Hunsingo, Fivelgo and the Westerkwartier. With its beautiful scenic areas and ever cosy villages like the Westerkwartierse Zuidhorn, Leek, Appingedam belonging to Fivelgo with its well-known hanging kitchens, Loppersum or the port town of Delfzijl. From Drenthe, you can make excellent trips to the Groninger Ommelanden.

Schiermonnikoog.

Get a real holiday feeling with a visit to the Wadden island of Schiermonnikoog. This car-free island is known for its beautiful nature and great hiking and cycling opportunities. The adventure begins with the wonderful drive from the hotel to the harbour of Lauwersoog. From here, several boats depart daily to the Wadden Island. In 45 minutes, you can feel the fresh wind through your hair and sniff the wonderful salty sea air. Time to relax! Take a nice walk through the dunes and along the beach or hire a bike to explore the island. Pay a visit to the lighthouse, go seal spotting and, of course, for the real adventurers, a mudflat walk should not be missed.
