At Onder de Linden, we value sustainability highly. In 2023, we were awarded the Green Key certificate gold for this. We take our responsibility for the environmental and social impact of our business very seriously.
In our hotel, Gastrobar and function rooms, a group of committed employees, the Green Team, monitors our sustainability policy and makes adjustments where necessary. We are happy to tell you what our sustainability policy is and what you as a guest will see and notice.

Sustainability policy Under the Linden

Together with our 'Green Team', we have developed a sustainability policy that we are constantly reviewing critically. There is always room for improvement and this is how we ensure that we keep up with the times and the latest developments in sustainability. Our sustainability policy aims to continuously reduce or make more sustainable the consumption of water, energy and raw materials. We are also committed to reducing the environmental impact of our activities. For instance, we continuously work on making our procurement process more sustainable. We do not hesitate to ask our suppliers to actively contribute to this. Because only together can we make our contribution to a sustainable world.

Sustainability in practice

You might be thinking, 'nice all this talk about sustainability, but what will I notice about this concretely as a guest?' Well, if all goes well, nothing will change for you as a guest. But you do make a subconscious contribution when you choose to stay the night or visit Onder de Linden. These are some concrete examples of our sustainability policy:

Shower, washbasin tap and toilet

Our showers and basin taps are fitted with a water-saving shower head and on the toilet you will find sustainable toilet paper from 'the good roll'.

LED lighting

Our entire building is equipped with LED lighting. Did you know that an LED bulb is up to 90% more energy-efficient than an energy-saving bulb. And they also last 3 to 5 times longer.

Eco-foam fire extinguishers

Our fire extinguishers are filled with eco-foam. This is environmentally friendly extinguishing foam with no harmful substances that biodegrades very quickly.

Charging station

We have charging stations for electric bikes for both our hotel and restaurant guests. Soon we will also have a charging station for cars at the back of our car park.

Local suppliers

Wherever possible, we prefer to work with local products. For example, our meat comes from butcher Crown from Groningen, the cheese of Cheese lust from Veenhuizen and we serve real Groningen beer from Baxbier.

Coffee grounds

Even our coffee grounds get a second use. Roden shed uses the coffee grounds to bathe scaffolding wood planks to add colour.

Food waste

All food waste will be collected by ReFood, which, through its own biogas plant, converts it into renewable energy and fertiliser for farmland.

Reducing mono-packaging

At the breakfast buffet, you will again find old-fashioned soaking jars of jam and sweets. We try to reduce mono-packaging wherever possible to save waste.

The Green Key certificate

The crowning glory of our work on sustainability is the Green Key certificate we were awarded in 2023. Green Key is the largest sustainability hallmark for the tourism and leisure industry. To receive the Green Key certificate, a company must meet various sustainability standards that are divided into 12 different themes. An independent inspector visits the company annually to assess these themes.

The Green Key certificate has three levels: bronze, silver and gold. The more environmental measures a recreation company has implemented, the higher the 'eco-friendly' level. We are proud to announce that Onder de Linden holds the Green Key certificate gold!

Under the Linden works towards a sustainable future

Obtaining the Green Key certificate gold does not stop for us as a company. Together with our 'Green Team', we continue to work every day to make Onder de Linden greener. We have recorded our intentions in our CSR declaration, this read here.
