Ommelanden

The Ommelanden is the land region that extends around the city of Groningen and includes the three quarters of Hunsingo, Fivelgo and the Westerkwartier. It is a historical name that traditionally refers to a number of rural districts or landscapes around the city of Groningen. Today, the Ommelanden area is also a draw for tourists. With its beautiful scenic areas and ever cosy villages like the Westerkwartierse Zuidhorn, Leek, Appingedam belonging to Fivelgo with its well-known hanging kitchens, Loppersum or the port town of Delfzijl. From Drenthe, you can make excellent trips to the Groninger Ommelanden.
